Goal setting is a powerful anchor which creates a strong index for an event to happen. This is particularly useful when trying to give up smoking or losing weight. Setting a fixed date brings the outcome into existance. As we work towards the goal and we see results this further increases the positive anchor we previously created.
There are a number of key factors to consider when setting goals:
- What is it you want?
- What will be the evidence that you have this, how will you know?
- Is this achievable? Is it within a humans realm of influence?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages?
- What are the benefits? Are you doing this to get away from something or doing this to get somewhere?
When defining goals and working through them with other NLP techniques they become more believable and their sense of achievability becomes fixed as if real.
